About Me
I have a Bachelor of Architecture, a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Design and
a Minor in Business Management from the University of Houston. After graduating
from the University of Houston I worked for Diamond Development and
Construction Group, a small architecture firm that designed all kinds of projects,
from medical “villages” to residential buildings. Because it was a small firm I really
became involved in the many aspects of designing a building. I learned many things
and eventually I applied to study Urban Design at the College of Environmental
Design at the University of California, Berkeley.
I am interested in the physical manifestations of urbanism and how we as designers
work within that realm. During my studio projects I think about the effects my
projects could have on their context and how the context in turn shapes the design
of my projects. I am interested in the way that living environments, theories, history,
and innovative solutions are combined in the public realm. I believe that my past
experiences, my desire to contribute to urban communities, and the methodology
that I apply to my projects allowed me to do well in the study of urban design.
I became conscious of the effect that a lack of attention from, not just designers but
also community members and leaders, can have on an area. I learned that as
designers we could do something to make neighborhoods better, greener and more
vibrant.
I would love to work for an organization that addresses social architecture,
sustainability, and urban issues. The effect urbanism has on the environment and on
communities is substantial. By working for such organizations I can be vital
contributor to the group of designers that address those issues I care most about.
